Margaret Mizushima asks Who are Your Furry Friends?

Margaret Mizushima and friends

Margaret Mizushima is the author of the Timber Creek K-9 Mysteries. Check out her bio here.

I’ve been married to a veterinarian for almost forty years, and I’ve become accustomed to sharing my life with animals, usually dogs and cats but sometimes fish and birds. I grew up on a cattle ranch, but my family typically only had one dog at a time during my childhood, not the pack that my husband seems to need.

Currently we have four dogs, which is a handful, but we love them all. We live with Hannah and Bertie, both German shorthaired pointers; Tess, a black and white border collie; and Lily, an elderly yellow Labrador retriever. My experiences as a vet’s wife and dog lover inspired me to write my Timber Creek K-9 Mystery series, which includes five books, the latest one titled Tracking Game. Book six, Hanging Falls, is set to release on Sep. 8, 2020.

The Timber Creek K-9 Mysteries feature Deputy Mattie Cobb, her German shepherd partner Robo, and veterinarian Cole Walker, who all live in a fictional town in the Colorado high country that, over the past years since I began writing these stories, has become the most dangerous spot in the state. I invite you to join Mattie, Robo, and Cole in their outdoor, mountain adventures as they solve crimes that impact their community.

In the meantime, take good care during this pandemic, and please tell me about the furry friends who enhance your life.

Jack is a teddy bear type Bishon mix and Mimi is a Shiatsu mix. Both are aging but Mimi’s mellow nature offsets Jack’s hyperactive mania. Both are snugglers. I wish I could post pictures!

Thanks, Tracey! I’d love to see your snugglers! When you have a moment, please post on Facebook, Blackbird Writers. Looking forward to seeing some cuteness!

Because I’m in my late 70’s and my dog passed away, I thought I can still have enough love to give another dog.
So I went looking for an older dog & I found Mikey at a rescue pound. He is a 7yrs old Jack Russell.
I made sure that if anything happened to me before it was his time, that he will be well looked after.

      Nola Rae,
It’s so good to hear about you and Mikey! Having enough love to give to a pet is a wonderful thing in this world, and I’m sure Mikey has enough love in his heart to give to you as well. May you be blessed with many years together!
      Hugs,
      Margaret

I’ve had a long string of dogs, usually two at a time. Because I understand the value dogs add to our lives, I don’t think your four are excessive! I also love to read about dogs in literature. I can’t wait to meet Robo!

Married to a veterinarian! There’s a series to write! I don’t have a dog now, but I’d love a border collie. They’re so smart. I haven’t had a dog for many years.
More recently, I’ve had cats in my life. Very recently, I lost my red tom Sammy and I miss him very much. I often have a cat in my books. In the Haunted Library series, Smoky Joe is the library cat though he really belongs to Carrie, my sleuth. He even gets to help solve a mystery.
